The first time me being on a long distant flight I wasn't prepared at all and in the end I was feeling cold, my mouth and nose were dry all the time, had a headache and got sick before my adventure in a far away country actually began.
But, the second time I was better prepared. There are some essentials that are helping you not only for spending a long time in a plane - But most of it doesn't need lots of space and it's useful to have it with you in general.
Of course there are more than five things you may need on a flight, but I am not talking about stuff to keep you entertained. No I am talking about essentials that make you feel better and keep you healthy.
In case you want to know what you actually can do for not getting bored on a long distant flight I actually wrote a blog post about it. Click on the link below, enjoy reading it and get inspired. → I AM BORED – WHAT TO DO ON A PLANE
Did you know that you actually can check the menus on your flights online, so that you make sure in case you have an allergy, such as lactose or gluten - same for being a vegetarian or vegan, to get a different dish? Take a look at your airlines website and figure out what's on the menu.
#1 EXTRA JUMPER TO KEEP YOU WARM
Normally you get a blanket and a pillow when you are in the plane for a lot of hours. But even then I always have a tall and super warm jumper with me. Specially one with a hood and is covering my neck and throat. Since there are air cons everywhere you don't want to get hit by a draft for 10 hours and end up sick right before you actually lay food on the ground of your country to be for the vacation. Next to it you can use it as a pillow or extra blanket. Wrap it around your neck and feel warm and comfy.
At least I always have the problem to wear regular shoes for a longer time than a few hours. My feet get cold and it only gets more uncomfortable. But when you have an extra pair of grandma's 100 % cotton or wool socks with you nothing can go wrong. Your feet will thank you to be out of these super tight, fake leather or plastic vessel. The other suggestion would be to take your slippers with you.
They are not only comfy to wear them in the plane, but also in the Hostel, Bed and Breakfast or wherever you, as long as you are inside. But something else that you should avoid.
You can go to the toilet on board with the slippers. DON'T DO that under any circumstances with your all time favourite granny socks or slippers, because no matter what type of public toilets you are about to use, they are always dirty.
“Just another small information aside. Always take some hand sanitizer with you, because not all toilets have enough toilet paper or a hand dryer that is actually working.”
A big travel mug or flask that you actually can open and close whenever you like comes in handy. Not only you can ask the stewardess to refill your flask and you have almost one litre to drink immediately whenever you like, but you help to keep the environment clean as well. You won't get annoyed not to have access to fresh drinking water any more, but also your throat, nose and eyes will thank you. Those get dry very fast while being up in the air.
It is the same with the travel cutlery than with having always a flask with you. No need to use plastic cutlery that you get from the staff in the aeroplane over and over again.
And for all of those that have a problem with drinking out of a glass or a cup that belongs to a café or restaurant and you are not sure about everything being to 100% hygienic, using soap too much and didn't let it dry until you get your drink in that particular glass, it is handy to use the bamboo straw that comes with your travel cutlery. You won't get cold sore that easily and no other kinds of itchy or hurt lips. With that you'll be always on the save side and help the environment the same way you already do with your travel flask.
#5 EYE DROPS
There are people that get dry eyes no matter what they do very easily. And there are those people that never have experienced it. But to have it in case you need it is a good feeling.
One thing to advise you is not to share it with your friend except they come in separate capsules and not in a small bottle. Just go to a pharmacy you trust and ask for it to get some feedback.
After all of these things found a little bit of space in your rucksack you'll be ready for a warm, snoozing and comfy flight.
That's all for today. Get ready for your next adventure and tell me all about your ideas of how to feel good on a long distant flight.
